Wasting Time

This term I've been working hard on my procrastination skills. These are the books I'm reading right now simultaneously:

Hitching Rides with Buddha
The Shining
The Budding Grove
How to Stop Worrying and Start Living
Logan's Run
Night of Sin

Plus, today I read half of The Story of O and a play called Harvest.

Book reading isn't all I do to avoid doing my schoolwork. I also watch a lot of tv. For example, these are the shows I watched today:

Being Ian
Captain Flamingo
Danny Phantom
Grossology
Carebears
Jane and the Dragon (last half)
Jacob Two Two (first half)
Ruby Gloom
Viva Pinata
Family Guy
MythQuest
Spongebob Squarepants
The Simpsons

Hmm, I think that's it. Don't bother adding it up, I did it myself, wasting five extra minutes -- that's 6 and a half hours of television.

Oh god, I need to write my essay.

Summer courses

I registered for summer courses today, yay!

English2A03 - Contemporary Critical Approaches to Literature (term 1)
English 3D03 - Science Fiction (term 2)
German 1Z06 - Beginner's Intensive German (term 1 and 2)

I wish I could take more. I really wanted to take Beginner's Intensive Japanese, but it clashed with the German and German seems more useful for what I'm studying (nineteenth century Romanticism). I may drop the Sci Fi course if I get into a seminar-level course on Science Fiction in the fall...I'll know about that in a couple of weeks.

Now, I just need to figure out how I'm going to pay for these...

Delaying Gratification

Is it possible that all my problems are caused by my inability to delay gratification? I always do what I want, when I want to, and I can't bear the thought of being ripped away from an entertaining task, especially since I feel so apathetic half the time. But maybe if I put off my enjoyment to do the things that need to be done, I wouldn't feel apathetic, because I wouldn't be tired of amusement.

Maybe?

New Computer!

For the first time in four years, I have my own computer! I gave up my last one because I was addicted to the Internet and feeling pretty upset with myself about all the time I spend online. However, I can't keep using Jon's because every once in a while we have to type assignments at the same time and then I have to either wait until he's done or try to get on a computer somewhere else, which is hugely inconvenient.

So, now when I'm online, I have a change of perspective. I'm going from this:

to this:

It's not much of a move...

I'm basically just turning around. Isn't our office kind of romantic, though? Lovers toiling together...

Saturday, March 1, 2008

I feel like I'm still on Reading Week, even though it ended a full week ago. I went to my parent's house in northern Ontario for the week and mostly did a lot of clothes shopping. It seems odd to buy a whole new wardrobe in a place that has no real stores to speak of, but I actually had a lot of luck. For example, there's a huge sale put on by a 50+ group in Kirkland lake, and I found a bunch of cool shoes that miraculously fit me. I've got really wide feet, so it's usually hard for me to find shoes that aren't sneakers. Here's what I got:

They were fifty cents each. Isn't that awesome? And they're all in great condition despite the fact that at least a couple pairs are probably from the 50s. That's salt on my boots -- I was wearing them today. I need to figure out how to get it off, since rubbing it with a rag didn't seem to work.
